What does it involve?

In total there are four sessions, covering social media, blogging, rich media, Google and Google Docs plus more! Enjoy a glass of wine and snacks while we talk you through the process, and get hands on and learn how to use these tools!

Session 2 will focus on: An introduction to building your own blog, plus how to link it to Twitter.

It will take place with ten or more sign ups.

Additional information

We will up-skill educators, and integrate them into our community of like minded people who want to openly share skills, content and best practice. Join those of us that are interested in authoring content specific to the South African context, that is freely and openly available for other educators to access, copy, share and use.

By participating in these sessions, you can become part of our community of volunteer educators that will receive first notification of our training and authoring workshops!

Session 3: Thursday 24 May - Introduction to open copyright, Creative Commons licences, searching for open "safe" content online

Session 4: Thursday 7 June - Introduction to Booktype (what it is, how to use it, and using it collaboratively to author content)

Join us and find out more about Siyavula, what it means to be part of the Siyavula Community, and learn new skills!

Who is Siyavula?

You may recognise our name from the Grade 10-12 Maths and Physical Science textbooks that were delivered to many schools by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Every single learner in a government school that is taking maths and / or physical science in Grades 10-12 will receive a copy of our textbooks, paid for by DBE. This is hugely exciting for us as an organisation, but also for the world of open educational resources - as far as we know, this is a world first. The books have their own websites and can be viewed at http://everythingmaths.co.za/ and http://everythingscience.co.za/ or on your cell phone at m.everythingmaths.co.za and m.everythingscience.co.za. Siyavula believes in sharing, community, collaboration and openness, and through the use of technology we strive to produce the best quality free educational resources out there.
